This photocopiable teacher handbook takes an accessible and practical 'inclusive' approach to ways of working with highly able children in regular classrooms. The handbook is divided into four sections. The first provides an overview of the wide range of different abilities that the term 'gifted and talented' can cover. The second provides strategies and planning frameworks that allow schools to focus on policy development and manageable ways to differentiate programmes for the highly able. Section three provides strategies and indicators for identifying children with special abilities. The final section looks practically at what can be done in the classroom. Topics include: setting up a responsive environment; learning and teaching strategies; unit analysis and adaptation; social and emotional development; and relating to parents.
