Australia and World War I – Teaching and Learning about the Great War uses a student inquiry approach to explore five major aspects of the Austraila wartime experience. These are:
1. Outbreak of war
2. At war
3. The home front
4. After the war
5. Remembering war.
Each topic contains information text that allows students to consider what it might have been like to live through this dramatic period in history and its relevance to our lives today. These are followed by a range of activities that guide students through the general stages of the inquiry method: investigating, analysing, creating and sharing ideas and information. Activities are designed to be completed individually or in groups. They cover such skills as drama and role-play, writing in different genres, organising information, sequencing and independent research.
